The Culinary Institute of Cagayan de Oro is the first culinary school and the first in holistic nutrition in Northern Mindanao, offering Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry Arts and Barista programs for aspiring chefs, bakers, baristas and hospitality professionals. The institute is known for its rigorous curriculum and high standards, and graduates of these programs are highly sought after by top restaurants, hotels, and other culinary establishments.

Hon. Rufus Rodriguez of District 2 in Cagayan de Oro City has long been known for his dedication to education and providing opportunities for his constituents. One of the most notable examples of this is the TESDA-STEP scholarship program for Cookery NC II and Bread and Pastry Production NC II for the Culinary Institute of Cagayan de Oro (CIC). Over the years, many of his constituents have been able to pursue their careers, thanks to Congressman Rodriguez’s support.

Last February 9, 2023, it was the graduation day of the 91 TESDA-STEP scholars supported by Cong. Rodriguez for both Cookery NC II and Bread and Pastry Production NC II. The graduation ceremony was held at Barangay Nazareth Gymnasium at Nazareth, Cagayan de Oro City. The awarding of the Certificate of Completion was presented by the Hon. Cong. Rufus Rodriguez (District 2-CDO), Atty. Regine Beatrice Rodriguez (Deputy Speaker of the Office of Cong. Rodriguez), Mr. Karlo de Marcaida (CIC Chairman), Ms. Restie J. Garcia (CIC Senior Vice President/School Administrator), Chef Gertrude Alovera (CIC Head of Academics), Ms. Jonah Saranza (CIC VP-Finance) and TESDA representatives.  

Congressman Rufus Rodriguez’s TESDA-STEP scholarship program for the Culinary Institute of Cagayan de Oro has been a tremendous success, providing scholars with the training support they need. The program has produced many successful scholars who have gone on to achieve great things in the hospitality industry, and it is a testament to Congressman Rodriguez’s dedication to education and his commitment to helping his constituents.
